Nadandolibre · Steve Muñatones • The conquest of Mt Fuji 5 lakes ... Japan Triathlon (52 km in 5 hr 17 min) 1992.

Mt. Fuji Triathlon (52 km in 5 hr 17 min) 1992.

Mount Fuji ... throughout history, humans have been many who have chosen this spectacular active volcano peaceful image to meditate and watch the sunrise.
But in 1992, Steven decided to conquer Muñatones this majestic volcano touring around the surrounding natural parkand swimming in its 5 lakes which are located north of MountFuji.
Their names are Yamanakako, Kawaguchi, Saiko, Shojico andalrrededor Motosuco and they are all the great volcano at the foot of the legendary Japanese mountain.
Steven Muñatones talk to Jose Diaz (Nadandolibre) on its third major open-water adventure in Japan ... This time the storywhich tells the versatile swimmer, has a great nature about another sport which saves a great relationship with swimmingopen water. The long distance triathlon.

Jose Diaz ·  What relation does this adventure with the Triathlon?

Steven · I swam across each of the lakes and then either rode my bicycle or ran to the next lake.  At the time, triathlons were big in Japan so I wanted to combine the sport of triathlons with open water swimming.

Jose Diaz · In which of the five lakes of Mt. Fuji did you swim?

Steven · Lake Yamanaka Kawaguchi, Lake Saiko, Lake Shojiko and Lake Motosuko.

Jose Diaz ·  Can you tell us the story of his adventure in the famous and spectacular Mount Fuji?

Steven · It was so beautiful on that day.  I could always see the majestic Mount Fuji throughout the swim.  In some of the lakes, I hit very cold water that is the melting snow of Mount Fuji.

Jose Diaz ·  Can you describe the feeling of swimming keeping an eye a great volcanic cone of such beauty and magnitude as is the Fuji?

Steven · It was inspiring.  Mount Fuji looks differently depending on the time of the day and the angle of the sun.  So I felt very connected with nature.  And I felt very, very small next to such a large mountain of over 3000 meters.

Jose Diaz ·  Did you make any changes in planning on crossing to swim in height?

Steven · I trained very hard and I did some mountain running.  So in addition to my regular swimming program, I used to run and bicycle in the mountains between 1500 – 2000 meters.  I had to become acclimated to high altitudes, so this was a very important part of my overall training program.

Jose Diaz · Remember that time employees at each lake swim?

Steven · It was nearly 3 hours total.

Jose Diaz · How was in the distances traveled by bike and race? Were they harder than swimming?

Steven · It was over 2 hours total. .  The runs were a bit hard because they were uphill runs.  The bike legs were great.

What a great adventure for Steven, he decided to conquer the 5 lakes to swim in one day with the distances that separate them, the distances traveled between lake and lake cycling or running. The height of over 3000m and large temperature changes thatmeet the swimmer tube after cycling or running into the water toswim, are some of the problems that Steven had to overcometo successfully swim the distance touring of the 5 lakes of Mount Fuji ... Once again we witness a great feat because the essence of a swimmer, who day by day and overcame all obstacles he encountered along the way to fulfill his dream .. In the great world of swimming and open water adventure.

Next: Steven Muñatones, 1993, the triangle of Okinawa 37km marathon swim in 10 hours and 16 minutes.

Jose Diaz And Carolina Fernandez Join Together In The Open Water

Jose Diaz, the writer and visionary behind Nadandolibre is getting married in September 2012 to Carolina Fernandez, another fitness professional.

"She has a degree in physiotherapy, but her passion for the sport has led to a much more active life. We will celebrate a special holiday in the seaside Mediterranean cuisine. Our wedding ceremony will take place in La Manga del Mar Menor which is very special to us because it is a place to go swimming and diving regularly."

Jose will appear on next week's Open Water Wednesday as its special guest.

Having a similar effect as his Irish colleague, Donal Buckley, the open water swimming world comes alive when Jose colorfully describe its heroes and heroines on his bilingual Nadandolibre blog.

For Nadando libre - or swimming free - is what Jose is passionate about. His love and appreciation of movement in the water - for fitness and competition, for Olympians and young children - are incredibly deep. Jose writes well and writes often. He delves into the soul of the open water swimmer and helps us understand their psyche and their motivations.

His questions penetrate the cloak of invincibility. He draws out their opinions, worries and outlook that is both entertaining and refreshing to learn.

It is clear that Jose has a profound understanding of the physical demands and mental toll of marathon swimming on one's mind and body. And Jose most definitely demonstrates a comprehensive vision of the future of the sport.

His one-on-one interviews with the contemporary greats of the sport range from channel champion Penny Palfrey to world champion David Meca. From Spain to America, his online prose spans the globe. Both prepared in English and Spanish, Jose’s bilingual information of exceptional aquatic adventures is a joy to receive and to read. Learn what motivates Jose during next week's Open Water Wednesday. Open Water Wednesday.
